On June 27, we gathered virtually for Session Two of Lessons + Leverage, a monthly lunchtime huddle designed for social enterprise entrepreneurs and organizational leaders to share honest stories, brainstorm aloud, and push each other toward progress, not perfection.
This month’s conversation brought together three dynamic women—Zakiya Jenkins (Grace Fitness), Denya Hamilton (Sow and Tell), and host LaToya Seawood (Level Up Management). Though representing different industries and locations, they discussed a shared, powerful common ground of purpose, and the often invisible challenge of getting out of our own way.
Highlights from the Conversation:
- Starting with Purpose: Each woman shared her entrepreneurial origin story. Zakiya’s health transformation inspired her nonprofit. Denya built Sow and Tell with her husband to amplify mission-driven brands. LaToya responded to the need to start a business in order to support community transformation.
- Facing the Inner Critic: Imposter syndrome, fear of success, and being overwhelmed by wearing too many hats were candidly named. The group discussed how self-sabotage and perfectionism often block action—even when we know what to do.
- Calling and Courage: Denya recounted how courage led her to host a successful Faith & Work conference in NYC. Zakiya shared the incredible turnout for her community water aerobics series. LaToya spoke about taking bold steps toward launching a professional training center in North Carolina.
- Tools of the Trade: The group praised tools like ChatGPT, Hello Bonsai, and Asana for helping streamline business tasks, especially when juggling family life and vision-building.
This session was a beautiful reminder: we thrive in community. Sometimes the greatest leverage isn’t a marketing tool or business strategy—it’s another leader speaking truth into your fear and cheering you on as you move forward.
Join us for the next Lessons + Leverage session on July 25th, 2025—and bring your wins, your “not yets,” and your whole self. We’ll be here to grow with you.
